The following lines were designed to have been presented to
General Amherst, as he passed thro' Long-Island, had not the
young gentleman who composed them been unfortunately
disappointed of the pleasure of seeing him.
  Amherst, while crouds attend you on your way,
  The debt of love and gratitude to pay;
  To greet the hero, heav'n was pleas'd t' employ,
  To scourge our foes, and give our country joy;
. . . [36 more lines; signed:] Nassovicus.
